Winter Weather:

Winter is the season when temperatures drop, snow covers the ground,  frost covers windows and icicles
hang from roofs. When the temperature is below zero, water freezes and ice forms on puddles,
ponds and lakes. Children have great fun breaking the ice in puddles on their way to school.

Winter Fun:

After a heavy snowfall, children play in the snow. They build snow forts, make snow angels  
and snowmen, and have snowball  fights. People also enjoy skiing, skating, and sledding in the winter.
Another popular winter sport is hockey.

Winter Dangers:

The cold weather can also be dangerous; people slip on the ice and cars slide down hills crashing into
each other. As well, heavy snowstorms called blizzards can knock down power lines and cause blackouts.
Some people also catch a cold when they stay out in the cold.

Keeping Warm:

Because winter is so cold, people have to find ways to keep warm. People wear heavy coats, scarves
for their necks, gloves for their hands, and boots on their feet. Children drink hot chocolate when they
come in from the cold. And families sit around the fireplace at night and talk about what they did during
the day.
